For “best consideration for admission”, applicants should have (note that there are always special cases, and that meeting the stated numerical goals will not guarantee admission to any program):
Successful applicants will usually demonstrate a high level of performance in at least three years of Greek and Latin. There is no numerical cut off for GRE scores or GPAs, but we expect our accepted students to offer scores at a level comparable to those of other very selective Princeton graduate programs. We also expect a statement of purpose that cogently expresses specific intellectual goals and a writing sample that demonstrates aptitude for innovative, informed and professional research.

Average number of new graduate students per year: 6. We only accept students pursuing a Ph.D.
Approximate percentage of applicants this represents: Ca. 6%.
Number of new students entering program this fall: 8

Approximate percentage of incoming students given full funding: 100%
Number of guaranteed years of funding: Students are guaranteed five years of funding. There are many opportunities to fund a sixth year through teaching.
Out of those years, number student will be expected or required to serve as TA, RA, or the like: Two semesters, minimum, but most students seek and gain further classroom experience.

Major changes anticipated in the department over the next few years, if any: After two new junior hires in Greek Literature, one in Latin literature, and a senior appointment in Greek History over the last two years, our faculty should be stable for the foreseeable future.
