The Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) was founded at the University of Chicago in 1905. Its territory consists of 31 midwestern, western and southern states, and three Canadian provinces. The organization has about 1600 members, primarily secondary-school teachers and college and university professors of Classical Greek and Latin. Individual memberships are $45/year; special rates are available for students and retirees. A lifetime membership is $900.
The 88th anniversary meeting of the Southern Section of CAMWS will take place November 13–15, 2008, in Asheville, North Carolina, at the invitation of the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
The 105th Annual Meeting of CAMWS will be held Wednesday–Saturday, April 1–4, 2009, at the Marriott City Center Hotel, Minneapolis, MN, at the invitation of the University of Minnesota. Proposals for panels and individual papers are now being accepted. All panel proposals must be received by August 21, 2008; all individual paper proposals must be received by September 25, 2008.
